The german word SEE describes both a sea and a lake. A medium in constant motion, even when supposedly at rest, there is a lot of life under the surface of the water. SEE! also means a spontaneous exclamation "look-there...".

The neologism SURFICTION is the title created by Raymond Federman for this description of his poetic work. Federman combines formalised poetry and prose to an encoded and alienating effect, rejecting genre and encouraging free interpretation. A defining example is the novel, "Double or Nothing"(1971) - German title: "Alles oder Nichts" (1986) - published by GRENO in "Die Andere Bibliotek" ("The Alternative Library") Excerpt note: beginning on page 155 the principal character describes how he came to be a clarinettist.
